Friendship

If I get down to asking myself this question, what is friendship really? Does friendship have a color, shape or formula? What or who is a friend.   I know for sure friends will be there for you, friends will cover for you, friends will visit you, hangout with you but friends will also betray you.

I have made many friends and most especially on the internet and I have never even met most of them.    I came to the conclusion that these kind of friends are not permanent but seasonal.  I made friends who I introduced to other friends but lo and behold they are now besties to the friends I introduced to more than they are to me, infact these 'dear' friends of mine will only be my friends when they need a favor otherwise I will never hear from them.

I have friends who have acquired a status and these are the most interesting group of friends.  First, they will act like I nolonger measure up to their standards.  You will read a friend's status update and you are like, is she referring to me or am overeacting but then ask why is she putting up this kind of status.  Some friends go even further to write on their walls how they are acquired so many enemies because of their upgraded status.  You will see similar updates everyday like 'friends' are jealous of them because they have acquired wealth.  I would only put up that status if I equally share this "acquired" wealth with my friends and they are not appreciative but if not why even bother.  These kind of friends do not like it that you are not paying any attention to them.  I mean dont we all have lives to live.

I have friends living 'outside countries' these friends also come in many categories, there are those who will contact me when they want me to recommend them a good joint to hangout but they will not hangout with me.  I have friends who will tell me they will be sleeping at my house but once they arrive you get to find out they have already been booked hotel rooms by their 'boyfriends' they are meeting for the first time.  I have friends who I will tell about a problem I have and they will send me money to solve my problem without thinking twice and or give me good advice. I also have friends who will sneak into the country and they will never ever give me a call but they will wait to fly back and invade my inbox with their issues.  I have friends who will leave without a good bye but they will Whatsapp me when they have arrived and tell me how they did not find time to see me.  I have friends who every time they fly back home they will bring me a gift and I do not have to give them anything in return.

This group of friends is the most interesting.  I have friends who will only want to hangout with me just because I will be buying them their favourite drinks and these are good company I must say, I sometimes do not even mind.  I have friends who will call me to hangout so that we catch up on the gossip rumor mill and these will for make sure they buy me drinks to get it out of me.  I have friends who simply want advice and they think I am the best "Auntie" for this.  The most interesting friends are those who will only call me to buy their merchandise but these save me the hassle of going shopping. I also have friends who will everytime call me to hangout and they will sure spoil me.  My best friends are those that call me just to check up on me.

Friends will always come and go but good friends are rare to find.
